During ACEC’s 2024 Annual Convention & Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C., BST Global CEO Javier A. Baldor presented a breakout session titled “The AI Imperative: A Trailblazer’s Perspective” to a packed room. The next day, he gave a second well-received presentation called, “How AI + Big Data Will Transform the AEC Industry.”
During the conference, Javier was also a guest on ACEC’s Engineering Influence podcast, where he sat down with ACEC Senior Vice President of Communications & Marketing Jeff Urbanchuk to discuss the impact of AI on the engineering industry.
In this interview with Jeff, Javier highlighted the rapid advancements in generative AI and its potential to transform industries, including engineering. He emphasized the growing importance of AI in business processes from proposal management to data utilization and pointed out that more and more firms are hiring chief data or digital officers to manage this shift.
Their conversation also covered the future of engineering firms, with predictions that AI technology will prompt a business model and workforce transformation by 2035. Javier praised ongoing research and initiatives from ACEC and its Research Institute, noting that the future will require new skill sets and adaptable business practices.
