BST Global leaders shared their positions on artificial intelligence, big data and digital innovation during several AEC industry association events in June of 2023. Here’s a snapshot of all the exciting conference happenings!
- Morrissey Goodale’s Western States in Las Vegas, NV
In early June, BST Global hosted "The BST Global Innovation Series" panel in Las Vegas as part of Morrissey Goodale’s Western States M&A, Strategy and Innovation Symposium. BST Global’s Chief Executive Officer, Javier A. Baldor, kicked off the session by discussing industry trends, specifically highlighting cutting-edge innovations like ChatGPT, data unification and predictive insights that are reshaping the AEC space. "I personally believe there is a significant opportunity and prize in the optimization, collaboration and technologies used to manage projects and teams within a consultancy," Javier stated. After his initial comments, Javier joined a panel of industry executives to discuss how they foster innovation in their firms. The thought-leaders gave the audience ideas on cultivating curiosity and innovation in employees, letting ideas breathe and more. Less than a week later, Javier traveled to Washington, D.C., to present at ACEC’s 2023 Annual Convention & Legislative Summit. His presentation, "How AI + Big Data Will Transform the AEC Industry," was one of the best-attended breakout sessions of the conference! Javier focused on the continued evolution of artificial intelligence and machine learning and their inevitable impact on project-based teams. For AEC firms specifically, Javier noted: "AI can improve quality, reduce waste and lower costs across the industry. These technologies can also de-risk the design and build process of complex buildings by giving AEC firms much more confidence that project goals will be met and delivered on time." Next, BST Global President & Chief Technology Officer Carlos A. Baldor Jr. traveled to Chicago in late June for the Environment Analyst Global Business Summit 2023. As part of his visit, he led a discussion titled "Digital Impact & Transformation: Leveraging Data & Digital Innovation to Provide New Solutions, Add Real Value & Achieve Sustainability Goals." This session explored how AEC firms can best respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by digitalization and big data, how they can leverage innovative technology to improve business efficiency and manage risk, and how they can harness the power of data. Carlos stressed that firms today need to become more data-driven and addressed some of the challenges in doing so. "It’s not just about having a lot of data," he noted. "An interesting anecdote to this point is that, of all the data generated in our day-to-day operations, only about 10% of it is actually unique — the rest is replicated. That means the other 90% is just creating more noise that you have to cut through to find meaning in your data." He went on to explain that meaningful data must be unified, secure and smart.
